ABOUT US

OUR
MISSION

GIMUN aims to provide students with a first hands-on work experience, rooted in the values of the United Nations and tailored for those interested in international relations. Each semester, students can join one of our departments, gaining practical skills while contributing to a dynamic and engaging environment.

Our departments offer a range of opportunities: some focus on organizing large-scale events, such as debate sessions held at the United Nations, while others plan social gatherings, creating memorable evenings for the association. Students interested in learning experiences can take part in organizing visits to major international organizations.

For those drawn to translation and interpretation, our language team plays a key role in navigating GIMUN’s bilingual structure. Those with a knack for finance can take on the responsibility of managing the association’s budget and sponsorships. Students who enjoy working with people might find their place in human resources, handling recruitment, interviews, and internal organization. Meanwhile, the public relations team offers a creative space for those interested in shaping GIMUN’s public image through social media and outreach.

Whatever a student's interest, there is a place for everyone at GIMUN.

GIMUN is led by the Executive Board, which is responsible for the overall functioning of the organization. It is composed of:

  • The President

  • The Vice President

  • Two Secretary-Generals

  • The Public Relations Director

  • The Finance Director

The Public Relations and Finance Directors also oversee their respective departments, alongside other key departments that contribute to GIMUN’s activities:

  • The Events Department

  • The Translation Department

  • Delegation

  • And Human Resources

To ensure continuity and provide guidance, the Advisory Board, made up of former Executive Board members, supports the current team with their experience and insights.

GIMUN also has a sister association, Popaedia, which operates independently but remains officially part of GIMUN.

OUR
STRUCTURE

CONSULTATIVE
STATUS

By means of Article 71 of the UN Charter, ECOSOC may grant Special consultative status to NGOs whose programmes align directly with the aims and purposes of the United Nations. The status allows NGOs to attend UN conferences, designate UN representatives to all UN missions in the world, and participate in UN meetings, particularly those of ECOSOC. Currently, ECOSOC has granted over 5,000 NGOs consultative status.

The status acknowledges the work GIMUN has done in educating youth about the UN and its bodies, and raising awareness of UN issues. Since its inception in 1999, GIMUN has organised numerous conferences and events for youth from around the world. The organisation continues to successfully promote intercultural exchanges and provide an opportunity to discuss and formulate findings and initiatives regarding pressing global issues.

This status enables GIMUN to continue to fulfil its role as an international platform for youth and to make their voices heard by decision-makers. We have the unique opportunity to organise events at the United Nations and to get participants accredited.
