Decarbonization or economic growth: a compulsory choice ?
Philippe Thalmann – Economy Professor at EPFL
Now a professor at EPFL, where he teaches the relationship between growth and sustainable development, Philippe Thalmann has extensive experience in the academic environment. After having studied in the University of Lausanne and Harvard, he returned to Switzerland to teach economics and public finance at the University of Geneva and then econometrics and economics at the University of Lausanne. In 1994, he eventually became Professor of Economics of the Natural Environment at EPFL. In addition to being a teacher, he is also director of continuing education programs and Director of the urban economy and environmental laboratory at EPFL.
Philippe Thalmann will be attending our conference to explain the link between growth and decarbonisation of societies, a very important aspect in the fight against global warming. He will explain, thanks to his great experience in this field, why the fight against greenhouse gases does not necessarily imply a decline in population and economic growth.
