The participation fee for the GIMUN 2006 does not cover accommodation during the period of the conference, transportation costs to come to Geneva or public transport in Geneva. Considering that accommodation in Geneva can be difficult to find and for most parts expensive, we have compiled a list of reasonably priced hotels and hostels below.

If you feel uncomfortable arriving on your own in Geneva, you may inform us at least a week in advance of your arrival. We will then be able to arrange meeting you at Geneva’s main station (Gare Cornavin) or the airport (Geneva Cointrin) to make your stay as smooth as possible. Please make reservations in hotels as soon as possible. At the same time as our conference there is a major exposition in Geneva, which makes it very hard to find a place to stay.

Tip: If you need directions in Geneva, go to the webpage: map.search.ch/geneve and type the address you are looking for. The map will show you where it is.

Sharing: should you be interested in sharing a hotel room with other participants, please contact the logistics department. We will try to arrange contact between participants. However, this does not mean that we will do the booking for you!

Civilian Protection: the Varembé premises

The GIMUN is, for exceptional circumstances, providing a limited number of participants with access to and housing in the Varembé civilian protection premises (close to the Place des Nations – Rue de Vermont 33A). In addition to the refectory, 35 dorm beds will therefore be available from Friday, March 3 to Saturday, March 11, for CHF 85.- for the entire week (breakfast not included).

This housing option is available only under the following conditions:

it is prohibited to smoke in the building
it is prohibited to use electrical appliances and gas stoves
it is prohibited to cook
it is prohibited to make any noise that might bother the surrounding tenants

If you would like to reserve a spot, please start by contacting the person in charge of Logistics (logistics@gimun.org). As there is a limited number of spots, they will be attributed on a first come, first served basis. After confirmation, the indicated sum must be paid to the GIMUN's bank account before January 31, 2006; otherwise your spot will be reassigned.

Hostels

The Youth Hostel (Auberge de jeunesse) is the place most participants stay during the time of GIMUN. We suggest that you buy a membership card which in the long run makes your stay cheaper. From the Geneva main train Station (Gare Cornavin) you must take the tram number 13 and get off at Butini. You walk back (opposite of tram direction) 20 meters and turn to your left into Rothschild Street. (See a map)

City Hostel Geneva is also a very nice place. Unfortunately it is even smaller than "Auberge de jeunesse" and therefore you must make the reservation as soon as you know that you participate in the GIMUN 2006. Mandat International’s main goal is to allow people from developing countries participate in international conferences. There are only a limited number of people admitted at the Mandat International. All people working there are volunteers and the hostel is non-profit. Please only contact this place if you genuinely do not have the possibility to stay in Geneva otherwise.

You may try to find a room at the University of Geneva’s accommodation office. We don’t know if they can help you out as the GIMUN isn’t directly linked to the university. Sometimes students offer their rooms to conference participants, check out www.etudiants.ch
